When a die is rolled, the sample space of possible outcomes:

S = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}

Now,

E = event that the die shows 4 = {4}

F = event that the die shows even number = {2, 4, 6}

\cap F = {4} \cap {2, 4, 6}

= {4}  \neq \phi

Hence E and F are not mutually exclusive event.
