Area of the triangle is given by:

Area = \frac{1}{2}\left [ x_{1}(y_{2}-y_{3})+x_{2}(y_{3}-y_{1})+x_{3}(y_{1}-y_{2}) \right ]

Substituting the values in the above equation, we obtain

Area = \frac{1}{2}\left [ (-5)((-5)-(-2))+3(2-(1))+5(-1-(-5)) \right ]

= \frac{1}{2}\left [ 35+9+20 \right ] = 32 \ square\ units.
