16.3 Why do we require artificial sweetening agents?

Natural sweeteners like sucrose provide calories to the body. For a diabetic patient, we need an artificial sweetener because it does not add any type of calories that affect the diabetic patient, whereas with a natural sweetener, the amount of fat, carbohydrate, and protein is high. Examples of artificial sweeteners are- Saccharin, aspartame, etc.
