Suppose he can fire $n$ bullets per second

Force = Change in momentum per second

$144= n\times \left ( \frac{40}{1000} \right )\times \left ( 1200 \right )$

$or\: \:\: \: n= \frac{144\times 1000}{40\times 1200}$

$or\: \:\: \: n= 3$
