Consider a finite insulated, uncharged conductor placed near a finite positively charged conductor. The uncharged body must have a potential:

Option: 1

less than the charged conductor more than at infinity

Option: 2

more than the charged conductor and less than at infinity.

Option: 3

more than the charged conductor and more than at infinity.

As the direction of the electric field due to the finite positively charged conductor is from conductor to infinity.

And as we now in the direction of the electric field the value of potential decreases.

So potential at infinity will be minimum.

and potential at the conductor will be maximum.

and so The uncharged body must have a potential less than the charged conductor more than at infinity.
