As we have learnt,

 

P -N junction as diode -

It is a one way device. It offers a low resistance when forward biased and high resistance when reverse biased.

R  \rightarrow \infty Reverse

 

 Due to reverse biasing the width of he depletion region increases and current flowing through the diode is almost zero. In this case electric field is almost zero in the diode of the depletion region.
