Reactivity of boron towards air -

Amorphous boron on heating in air form B2O3 (acidic) with dinitrogen they form nitrides

- wherein

2B+3O_{2} \overset{\Delta }{\rightarrow}2B_{2}O_{3}

2B+N_{2} \overset{\Delta }{\rightarrow}2BN

 

 Boron reacts with O2 and N2 gas present in air and forms B2O3 and (BN)x (nitride of Boron)
