Variation of I.E. down the group -

 

Z increases with increase in atomic number, which result in the increase of force attraction between the nucleus and the outermost electron and accordingly I.E. should increase.

 As we know as atomic no. increases ionisation potential increases but in case of sulphur there are 2 3p electrons paired. There is some repulsion between paired electrons in the same sub-level. This reduces force of attraction to the nucleus, so less energy is needed to remove one of these paired electrons than is needed to remove an unpaired electron from phosphorus
