The final selection of candidates will be done on the basis of their ranks in the allotment list. The IBPS Clerk selection procedure 2017 has been specified by the exam conducting body, Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS). The selection procedure of IBPS Clerk is a five stage procedure which includes applying for the exam, appearing in the prelims exam followed by mains exam, identity verification and allotment participating banks as per the rank and preference.

All the candidates who will register for the exam will be called for the prelims exam. Subsequently the candidates qualifying the prelims exam will be called for the mains exam. Shortlisting of candidates for final allotment will be done on the basis of their marks in the mains exam. IBPS Clerk Selection Procedure 2016 will comprise of the following stages:

  • Registration for the exam
  • Preliminary examination
  • Mains examination

IBPS Clerk Selection Procedure 2017 – Explanation of the stages 

Stage 1: Online Registration

The registration process of IBPS Clerk will begin in the month of September. Candidates are required to register online for the exam. The application form of IBPS Clerk can be filled in five parts – registration, uploading of photograph & signature, filling up of basic details and fee payment. All the candidates who will apply for the exam will be called for preliminary exam.

Stage 2: Online Preliminary Examination 

  • The Online Preliminary Examination of IBPS Clerk 2017 will comprise of 3 sections - english language, numerical ability and reasoning ability.
  • The total marks alloted for Online Preliminary Examination is 100.
  • The candidates will have to qualify in each section.
  • IBPS will decide the cutoff for Online Preliminary Examination as per sections and Category. 
  • The candidates to be qualified for the Mains Examination of IBPS Clerk will have to secure the desired cutoff fixed by IBPS. 
  • Adequate number of candidates in each category will be decided by IBPS and depending upon the requirements will be shortlisted for online main examination.

Stage 3: Online Mains Examination 

  • The online mains examination will comprise of 5 sections - Reasoning, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness and Computer knowledge.
  • The total marks allotted for the Online Mains Examination is 200 marks.
  • There will be sectional timings for each sections in Online Mains Examination.
  • Each candidate is required to obtain a minimum score in each test of Online Main Examination and also a minimum total score to be considered for further process.
  • Depending on number of the State/ UT wise vacancies available, cut-offs will be decided and candidates will be considered for provisional allotment.
  • 100% weightage will be given to the score obtained by the candidate in the online Main Examination. 
  • A candidate should qualify in the IBPS Clerk main examination and be sufficiently high in merit to be shortlisted for provisional allotment based on the reported vacancies by the participating organizations.

Note: Prior to the completion of provisional allotment process scores obtained in the Online Main Examination will not be shared with the candidates.

Stage 4: Document verification

  • The provisional allotment is subjected to candidates’ fulfilling the criteria for participating organization and identity verification.
  • Verification of documents with regard to eligibility criteria will be carried out by the participating organization.
  • The participating organization will also ascertain Proficiency of local language (reading, writing and speaking) of the State/UT for the provisionally allotted candidates.
  • The participating organization reserves the right to cancel the candidature on account of deficiency of the same.
  • Decision of the participating organizations here shall be final and binding upon the candidates.
  • In case it is detected at any stage of the recruitment process that, the candidate does not satisfy the eligibility criteria his/her candidature/ chance in the process shall stand forfeited.

Stage 5: Provisional Allotment in IBPS Clerk 2017 

  • The total marks allotted for Main Examination are 200. Marks will be converted out of 100 for Provisional allotment.
  • A candidate should qualify in the CWE online main examination and be sufficiently high in the merit to be considered for subsequent provisional allotment process.
  • On completion of the Main Examination, depending on the state/UT wise vacancies to be filled in during the financial year 2018-19 based on the business needs of the Participating Organisations.
  • Candidates shortlisted will be provisionally allotted to one of the Participating Organisations, based on merit-cum-preference keeping in view the spirit of Govt.
  • Provisional allotment shall be done on the basis of final vacancies to be reported by the Participating Organisations.
  • A candidate belonging to SC/ST/OBC Category, who is selected on the same standard as applied to General Category Candidates will be treated as own merit Candidates.
  • As the provisional allotment will be made to participating organisations on merit cum preference basis, once the provisional allotment is made, no request for change shall be entertained.

IBPS Clerk Selection Procedure 2017 – Resolution of Ties

In the event of two or more candidates having obtained the same score, merit order will be decided as per date of birth (the candidate senior in age is placed before/ above the candidate junior in age), as per the prevailing practice.
