Arvind Panagariya, Vice-Chairman of NITI Ayog Committee, has proposed to scrap the Medical Council of India (MCI) and replace it by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Apart from this, the Panagriya panel which is looking into the poor regulations of the Medical Council of India also includes the Prime Minister’s Additional Principal Secretary P K Mishra, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant and Health Secretary Bhahanu Pratap Sharma in the committee.
“The committee has firmed up its decision to scrap the MCI and replace it with the NMC, which will take over all its responsibilities. The main objective behind this is to end the inspector raj in the medical field in the country,” said a senior government official.
For NMC it is being suggested that the members of the committee will be selected instead of being elected. The selection procedure will be conducted by a high level Search-cum-Selection committee.
National Medical Commission (NMC) will take over of all the roles and responsibilities of Medical Council of India, he said.
NMC will have an imminent number of Doctors and medical experts to guide and enhance the medical education in the country. Meetings are being held over how to create world class professional in the medical domain.
