The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG will have single set of question paper in 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) - the conducting authority of the exam - has told the Supreme Court of India. The same question paper will be translated into different languages to make evaluation easy. In 2017, some students taking the exam in some of the vernacular mediums had protested against the questions being different than the ones in Hindi and English. The entrance test can be taken in 10 different languages.
The Board told a bench comprising Justices Arun Mishra and F.A. Nazeer that from 2018 onwards there will be only one set of question paper for NEET 2018. The court had disagreed with the board’s stance that if the level of difficulty of all the papers was similar, then there would be uniformity in the test and the concept of having multiple sets of question papers was thoroughly justified.
NEET UG 2018 will be the basis of admission to 90,000 seats available in MBBS/BDS programmes taught in various medical/dental collges across India. NEET UG 2018 is scheduled for May 06, 2018 and applications are expected to be released in the second week of February. The test will be pen and paper based, containing 180 objective type multiple choice questions from Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany. The duration of the exam will be 3 hours. The total number of marks will be awarded out of 720.
