-Inheritance of a character due to the presence of more than one genes is called Quantitative inheritance or polygenic inheritance. In this, dominant alleles have cumulative effect. One allele contributes 1 unit of colour, alternative allele contributes 0 units; a dihybrid genotype ratio 1:4:6:4:1 is obtained as follows:

  • Genotypes with both the genes having dominant alleles (AABB) = 1
  • Genotypes with three dominant alleles (AABb, AaBB) = 4
  • Genotypes with two dominant alleles(AaBb) = 6
  • Genotypes with one dominant alleles (Aabb, aaBb) = 4
  • Genotypes with zero dominant alleles (aabb) = 1
