After karyogamy followed by meiosis, spores are produced exogenously in
Agaricus
Alternaria
Neurospora
Saccharomyces
Basidiomycetes (Club fungi) -
- Sexual reproduction in basidiomycetes is a sequential process. It takes place by somatogamy.
1. Plasmogamy- fusion between cells of monokaryotic mycelium of opposite strains takes place which results in the formation of dikaryotic mycelium which gives rise to basidium.
2. Karyogamy- In the basidium karyogamy (fusion of nuclei) takes place.
3. Meiosis- the diploid nucleus undergoes meiosis and later basidiospores are formed exogeneously on the basidium.
In Neurospora, the spores are endogenously formed in a sac like structure called ascus.Sexual reproduction is absent in Alternaria. In Saccharomyces (yeast), budding is the major form of reprodution.
In the basidium karyogamy takes place. The diploid nucleus undergoes meiosis and later basidiospores are formed exogenously on the basidium.
