Types of weak aerial stems -

  • Creepers - Creep on earth and roots arise on the nodes. Eg - Grasses, strawberry.
  • Trailers - Stem creeps on the ground but the roots do not arise at the nodes.
  • Prostrate or Procumbent - When the stem trails on the ground & lie prostrate. Eg - Oxalis, Evolvulus
  • Deccumbent - Stem trails for some distance & then tend to rise at its apex. Eg - Tridax, Portulaca
  • Diffuse - When the branches of the stem are spread out in all directions on the ground. Eg - Euphorbia, Boerhaavia
  • Liana (Stem Climber) - They twin themselves around tall trees to secure sunlight. Eg - Hiptage, Bauhinia
