Parts of foliage leaf -

A typical foliage leaf is differcutaled into 3 parts - Leaf base, petiole and lamina.

Leaf base (Hypopodium) -The part of leaf attached to the stem or branch. It protects a bud in its axil.

In many dicotyledonous, minute appendages arising from the leaf base. Leaves with stipule is called stipulate & without stipules extipulate

In some plant (pea & legumes), the leaf base is swollen & it is called pulvinus. In some plants (monocotylednous) leaf base expands into sheating leaf base,

when sheat surrounds the stem incompletely called auriculate or semi-amplexicaul eg - poppy and madar.

When sheat surrounds completely it is called amplexicaul. Ex: Crotolania, polygonum
