The Pelvic Girdle -

  • The pelvis or pelvic girdle is formed by two innominate bones (hip bones). 
  • The sacrum and coccyx also take part in the formation of the pelvis. 
  • Each innominate bone consists of three separate bones, the ilium, ischium and pubis.
  • On its outer surface, it has a deep depression called the acetabulum to which the head of the femur is articulated forming the hip joint.
  • The pubic symphysis is made up of white fibrous cartilage.
