Yellow elastic connective tissue -

  • This tissue consists of a loose network of thicker and branched yellow fibres.
  • It contains irregularly scattered fibroblasts, mast cells, macrophages etc. 
  • Strength and elasticity of this tissue are very high.
  • Yellow elastic tissue is also of two types
  1. Yellow fibrous cords (ligaments): In this type, the yellow elastic connective tissue forms cords called ligaments. These join a bone to another bone.
  2. Yellow fibrous sheets: The yellow elastic connective tissue forms sheets. It occurs in the walls of blood vessels, lungs, bronchioles, the cartilage of the larynx, trachea, capsules of the spleen.

Yellow elastic connective tissue contains irregularly scattered fibroblasts, mast cells, macrophages etc
