Mechanism of Vision -

  • The light rays pass through the cornea, aqueous humor, lens and vitreous humor and are focused on the retina.
  • The light initiates graded potentials in rods and cones.
  • The photosensitive components of rods and cones are made up of opsin and retinal.
  • Light causes retinal to dissociate from opsin and opsin undergoes structural changes.
  • This generated potential differences in the photoreceptors and causes generation of graded potential.
  • The graded potential is transferred via bipolar cells to ganglion cells.
  • The action potential is generated in the ganglionic cells which are transmitted to the visual cortex of the brain via the optic nerve.
  • The neural impulses are analysed in the brain and correct image is recognised.

Hence, The light rays pass through the cornea, aqueous humor, lens and vitreous humor and are focussed on the retina andis the correct naswer.
