Phylum Cephalochordata - Characteristics Features -

  • The animals of Cephalochordata have notochord, dorsal hollow nerve cord, pharyngeal gill slits and post-anal tail in the adult stage. The notochord is present in the head region. Hence, their name is cephalochordata.
  • They possess a fish-like segmented body.
  • They do not have a distinct brain.
  • They are filter feeders.

 The adults of cephalochordates do not lose the advance chordate features. This is called progressive metamorphosis.
