When a fresh water protozoan is placed in marine water
contractile vacuoles become bigger in size
no. of contractile vacuoles increase
contractile vacuoles disappear
contractile vacuoles remain unchanged
- The function of contractile vacoule is to remove the excess water outside by the process of osmoregulation.
- When fresh water protozoan placed in marine water which is denser (hypertonic) than its cytoplasmic medium then the organism tend to loose water. So the contractile vacoule disappear in order to prevent dehydration of cell.
