As we learned

Digestive glands in earthworm -

  1. Pharyngeal Glands - made up of chromophil cells, produce mucin for the lubrication of food and secretes a proteolytic enzyme, located in 4th segment.
  2. Gastric Glands - located in the 9th - 14th segments, release protease, amylase, cellulase, chitinase and lipase. Complete digestion of protein takes place in the stomach.
  3. Intestinal Glands/Intestinal Caeca - located on 26th segment, secretes amylase enzyme which digests starch. chloragogen cells play the role of liver in the stomach of the earthworm.
