It is a process of formation of fossils

During the formation of sedimentary rocks, the dead animals get carried to sea and sink down and get burried in the rocks. This cuts off oxygen and prevents decay. Slow decay leave only hard parts including bones , teeth, shells etc to form impressions, moulds, casts etc with the hardening of mud and sand.
