AC=\sqrt{(AB)^2+(BC)^2}=\sqrt{12^2+5^2}=13m

Thus the displacement is less than the distance and =13m. Now consider the man moving from A to B to C to D to A. Then the distance= perimeter of the field=2(12+5)=34m, whereas displacement = 0m since the initial and final position is same.

Suppose in the above case the man travels the distance of 34 m in 8.5 sec then the speed of the man = 4ms-1 and velocity=0 ms-1 why?.
