NCERT Solutions for Class 6 Science Chapter 12 Electricity and Circuits

NCERT Solutions for Class 6 Science Chapter 12 Electricity and Circuits: For students following NCERT syllabus, a tool like solutions of NCERT for class 6 science chapter 12 electricity and circuits is useful. After completing the chapter, practicing questions is important, the CBSE NCERT solutions for class 6 science chapter 12 electricity and circuits help students for the same. The main topics of the chapter are the electric cell and electric circuit. Electricity is one of the major forms of energy. Lightning systems and many types of machinery and devices work using electricity. Now it is difficult to imagine a world without electricity. Toy cars, torchlight and big motors use electricity. Torchlight uses electric cell for their working. There are activities to make a working model of a tester, electric switch etc. Doing these activities give more clarity about how an electric circuit works. More than three questions on the working of an electric circuit are discussed in the NCERT solutions for class 6 science chapter 12 electricity and circuits. At the end of each chapter, there are exercise questions. If any doubt arises while solving these questions the solutions of NCERT for respective chapters can be used.

NCERT solutions for class 6 science chapter 12 electricity and circuits exercise:

Q1. Fill in the blanks :

(a) A device that is used to break an electric circuit is called _______________.
(b) An electric cell has _______________ terminals.

Answer:

(a) The switch is used to break an electric circuit.

(b) An electric cell has two.

Q2. Mark 'True' or 'False' for the following statements:

(a) Electric current can flow through metals.
(b) Instead of metal wires, a jute string can be used to make a circuit.
(c) Electric current can pass through a sheet of thermocol.

Answer:

(a) True, electric current can flow through metals.

(b) False, a jute string is not a conductor of electricity.

(c) False, thermocol is not a conductor of electricity.

Q3. Explain why the bulb would not glow in the arrangement shown in Fig. 12.13.

Answer:

In the given arrangement shown in the figure above the bulb would not glow because the screw/ tester driver is made up of plastic and plastic is a poor conductor of electricity.

Q5. What is the purpose of using an electric switch? Name some electrical gadgets that have switches built into them.

Answer:

The purpose of using an electric switch is to make electric circuit open or closed for a particular appliance.

Some electrical gadgets that have switches built into them are table fan, torchlight, etc.

Q6. Would the bulb glow after completing the circuit shown in Fig. 12.14 if instead of safety pin we use an eraser?

Answer:

No, the bulb will not glow as the eraser is an insulator so it does not allow the current to pass through it.

Q7.  Would the bulb glow in the circuit shown in Fig. 12.15?

Answer:

From the given figure, we can observe that the circuit is complete and closed therefore, there is a flow of current in the circuit hence the bulb will glow.

Q8. Using the "conduction tester" on an object it was found that the bulb begins to glow. Is that object a conductor or an insulator? Explain.

Answer:

Yes, if the object is a good conductor of electricity then the current will flow through the tester and the bulb will glow.

Hence, the object is a conductor of electricity.

Q9. Why should an electrician use rubber gloves while repairing an electric switch at your home? Explain.

Answer:

An electrician uses rubber gloves while repairing an electric switch because rubber is an insulator and during the work when current-carrying wires come in contact with the rubber gloves the electrician will not get an electric shock. So rubber gloves are used for protection.

Q10. The handles of the tools like screwdrivers and pliers used by electricians for repair work usually have plastic or rubber covers on them. Can you explain why?

Answer:

Plastic or rubber is a good insulator that does not allow the current to pass through it. Hence, the covering of plastic or rubber is made so that electric current may not pass through these tools to the body of the electrician to harm them.
