1.16  A compound is formed by two elementsM and N. The element N forms ccp and atoms of M occupy \frac{1}{3}rd  of tetrahedral voids. What is the formula of the compound?

It is given that element N forms CCP.

Let us assume, the number of atoms of element N (which forms ccp) is x.

Then no. of tetrahedral voids = 2x.

It is also given that M occupies  \frac{1}{3}rd of tetrahedral voids.

So the number of atoms of element M :

            =\frac{2x}{3}

So the molecular formula bocomes : M2N3.
