# 1.16  A compound is formed by two elements$\inline M$ and $\inline N$. The element $\inline N$ forms ccp and atoms of $\inline M$ occupy $\inline \frac{1}{3}rd$  of tetrahedral voids. What is the formula of the compound?

It is given that element N forms CCP.

Let us assume, the number of atoms of element N (which forms ccp) is x.

Then no. of tetrahedral voids = 2x.

It is also given that M occupies  $\frac{1}{3}rd$ of tetrahedral voids.

So the number of atoms of element M :

$=\frac{2x}{3}$

So the molecular formula bocomes : $M$2$N$3.
