a) Vaccines are preparation of antigenic proteins of pathogen or inactivated/weakened pathogen which when introduced into the body result in the production of antibodies against these antigens. These antibodies would neutralize the pathogenic agents during actual infection. The vaccines also generate memory – B and T-cells that recognize the pathogen quickly on subsequent exposure and overwhelm the invaders with a massive production of antibodies.

b) Vaccinations are a must for a healthy society because B and T cells recognize the pathogen and produce antibodies and kill the pathogen. They also create a memory of the pathogen and prevent the people in society from falling sick again. Vaccination is now an essential part of human life. Vaccines enable children with immunosuppressive diseases to go to school without having to worry about being infected by their sick peers. Vaccination allows society to protect people from various conditions and diseases and reduces diseases, disability, death, and inequity worldwide.
