a) PIONEER SPECIES OF HYDRARCH SUCCESSION -

  • Pioneer communities are small phytoplanktons. Examples- Diatoms

PIONEER SPECIES OF XERARCH SUCCESSION

  • Pioneer communities are usually lichens. Examples- Graphis
  • Lichens secrete acids to dissolve rocks, helping in weathering and soil formation
  • The climax community formed in both cases would be a forest.

b) The rate of secondary succession is faster than that of primary succession because in area of secondary succession some soil and nutrients are already present, so succession reaches quickly.
