It is said that “Cleanliness is next to godliness.” It is because we can only succeed physical, mentally and spiritually when we have a clean body, mind and soul. Cleanliness is an essential part of our personality. A clean human is loved and respected by society.

A clean country is every citizen’s aspiration. Our government has given a factor of the budget to clean the country, its landscapes and rivers. Endless cleanliness projects have been introduced to clean the Ganges, Yamuna and water bodies which are commercially used. Such rivers provide the people with water for different purposes such as drinking, bathing, irrigating, cooking and storing. Dams are built on such rivers to produce hydro energy. If such bodies are polluted, which they are, it leads to different problems for the nation. They have to clean these sources with more chemicals, or unclean water will lead to different diseases which will eventually worsen the health of the people, reduce the production of goods and services and will eventually reduce GDP.

A clean lifestyle is also needed in our lives as toilets are required in our nation in various rural places. People, especially women, have a hard time to go in search of appropriate places to bathe and relieve themselves. They unwillingly resort to unhygienic places as they don’t have a choice which again could lead to contracting diseases which will worsen the health, reduce production and will eventually reduce GDP.

Cleanliness is not only essential for a good life but for the development of our country. Cleanliness is a silent factor in development as cleanliness not only promotes good health but increases production of goods and services as a healthy human is the one who is clean is the one who will work effectively and efficiently towards production. Present and previous governments have issued various projects towards a clean India. The current ongoing project “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” led by PM Modi to drive the country towards a clean tomorrow. Another project to clean Ganga River is “Namami Gange programme”.

A clean nation is a developed nation. All developed nations are strict about their cleanliness. But cleanliness is not just one man’s duty. This is a collective effort by the citizens. To ensure such outcome we should educate people about personal, domestic and communal hygiene. Littering should be banned. We should dispose of the  garbage ecologically. We should  divide the waste among green and non-recyclable materials. There should be a cleanliness police to monitor over the littering and cleanliness around the nation. Heavy penalties should be charged to those who litter and pollute places. We should eat clean and healthy, and always should wash whatever we eat. Such factors would increase the mortality rate of humans which will increase the production of goods and services, which is a plus point for GDP. GDP will boost with the help of such a silent and hidden factor as cleanliness and will take us a step closer to being a developing nation to a developed nation.
