Sonnet -??????-The word sonnet is derived from the Greek word 'sonneto' meaning 'a sound'. It is a short poem of 14 lines and the Italian poet Petrarch was the first to use this form of the poem to express his love for his beloved Laura. He divided his sonnet into two parts, the Octave of 8 lines and the Sestet of 6 lines with a pause after 8 lines
It's rhyme scheme is ab, ba, ab, ba, cde, cde.
The English sonnets have three quatrains of 4 lines each and a couplet of 2 lines. The English sonnets are also known as Shakespearean sonnets.
