X1 g of an element gives X2 g of its oxide. What is the equivalent mass of the element.

Answers (1)

weight of metal = x gm

weight of oxide = y gm

oxygen consumed = y-x gm

Since,(y-x)gm of oxygen combines with x gm of metal

so,1 gm of oxygen will combine with =x/(y-x) gm of metal

hence, 8 gm of oxygen will combine with =8x/(y-x)gm of metal

this 8x/(y-x) is the equivalent mass of the element.
