A man saved Rs. 66000 in 20 years. In each succeeding year after the first year he saved Rs 200 more than what he saved in the previous year. How much did he save in the first year?

Total amount saved in 20 years is S_{20}=66000

Let the amount saved in first year be ‘a’

Since he increases 200 Rs every year   d=200

Sum formula of A.P is S_{n}= \left( \frac{n}{2} \right) \left( 2a+ \left( n-1 \right) d \right)

S_{20}= \left( \frac{20}{2} \right) \left( 2a+ \left( 20-1 \right) 200 \right)

66000=10 \left( 2a+3800 \right)

a=1400
