The molecular formula of borax isNa_{2}B_{4}O_{7}.10H_{2}O. On heating, it loses water molecules and converts into sodium metaborate(Na_{2}B_{4}O_{7}) and if we continue the heating process it becomes anhydride, called as boric anhydrideB_2O_{3}.

Na_2B_4O_7.10H_2O\rightarrow Na_2B_{4}O_{7}\rightarrow 2NaBO_{2}+B_{2}O_{3}
