11.11. What is the state of hybridisation of carbon in
(b) diamond ?
Each carbon in the diamond is hybridized and four carbon is attached to one central carbon.
The structure of diamond is a hard three-dimensional carbon atom network that expands throughout space. It is difficult to break due to its giant covalent lattice and its many strong covalent bonds. In diamond, each carbon atom is bonded to four other carbon atoms in a tetrahedral fashion. This is because one s orbital and three p orbitals combine to form four equivalent sp3 hybrid orbitals.
