OB is pole.

In \triangle AOB, by pythagoras theorem

AB^2=AO^2+BO^2

\Rightarrow 24^2=18^2+AO^2

\Rightarrow 576=324+AO^2

\Rightarrow 576-324=AO^2

\Rightarrow 252=AO^2

\Rightarrow AO=6\sqrt{7} m

Hence, the distance of the stack from the base of the pole is 6\sqrt{7} m.
