Given,

The frequency of the sound wave, f = 500Hz.

Hence, the time period, 

T = \frac{1}{f} = \frac{1}{500Hz} = 0.002\ s

Therefore, the time interval between successive compressions from the source of sound is equal to the time period of sound waves.
