Q. 11.4  Answer the following :

(c) The absolute temperature (Kelvin scale) T is related to the temperature t_{c} on the Celsius scale by

 t_{c}=T-273.15

Why do we have 273.15 in this relation, and not 273.16?

This is because  0oC on the Celcius scale corresponding to the melting point at standard pressure is equal to 273.15 K whereas 273.16 K is the triple point of water. The triple point of water is 0.010C , not 00C
