9.27 Discuss briefly giving an example in each case the role of coordination compounds in:
(i) biological systems
Coordination compounds play a great role in biological systems. The pigment which is responsible for photosynthesis, chlorophyll, is a coordination compound of magnesium. Haemoglobin (which acts as oxygen carrier) the red pigment of blood is a coordination compound of iron. Vitamin B12, and cyanocobalamin, the anti-pernicious anaemia factor, are few coordination compounds of cobalt which have biological importance.
