8. Explain why:
(b) Calamine solution is applied on the skin when an ant bites.
The sting of an ant contains formic acid. Therefore, when an ant bites, it injects formic acid into our skin and due to which we feel a burning sensation. As calamine solution contains zinc carbonate which is basic in nature.
Therefore, when we applied it on the skin it neutralize the effect of formic acid.
when ant bites that part becomes too acidic ,so to get relief we apply calamine solution or baking soda because base is present in baking soda and calamine solution and when acid reacts with base it neutralize & we get relief.
Calamine solution or Zinc Carbonate is applied on ant sting because ant sting contains Formic acid or HCOOH which makes it acidic in nature and can be nutralised by a base, i.e ZnCO3
