Q. 8. Explain with examples
(ii) Mass number,
Mass Number :
Mass number of an atom is the sum total of the masses of all the nucleons present in the nucleus of an atom, i.e.,
Mass Number = No. of Protons + No. of Neutrons
It is denoted by A.
Example: As a sodium atom has 11 protons and 12 neutrons in its nucleus,
So, it's mass number = 11 + 12 = 23.
