We have,
                  a ^4 +2 a ^2 b ^ 2 + b ^ 4 = a^{4} + a^{2}b^{2} + a^{2}b^{2} + b^{4}
                                                   =a^{2}(a^{2 }+ b^{2}) + b^{2}(a^{2}+b^{2}) = (a^{2}+b^{2})(a^{2}+b^{2}) = (a^{2}+b^{2})^{2}
