Given points:  (a, b), (– a, – b)

Distance between the points will be: (x_{1},y_{1})\ and\ (x_{2},y_{2})

D = \sqrt{(x_{2}-x_{1})^2+(y_{2}-y_{1})^2}

D= \sqrt{(-a-a)^2+(-b-b)^2} = \sqrt{4(a^2+b^2)} = 2\sqrt{a^2+b^2}
