Solution.         It is given that sin\theta = a/b

cos\theta=\sqrt{1-sin^2\theta}=\sqrt{1-\frac{a^2}{b^2}}

\therefore \cos \theta = \frac{\sqrt{b^{2}-a^{2}}}{b}
Hence option (C) is correct.
