How can you remove the hard calcium carbonate layer of the egg without damaging its semipermeable membrane? Can this egg be inserted into a bottle with a narrow neck without distorting its shape? Explain the process involved.

This can be achieved as under:
- Take a mineral acid solution and put an egg inside it and leave it for 2 hours. Most of the outer shell will dissolve. Remove any remaining part with your fingers.
- Take a saturated solution (hypertonic) and lace the egg in it for 3 hours. Egg’s size reduces as the egg shrivels due to osmosis.
- Place the egg in a bottle with a narrow neck and fill water (hypotonic) in it. The egg will regain its shape.
