Q. 5. How is the small intestine designed to absorb digested food?
The design of the small intestine is such that it provides the maximum area for the absorption of digested food and its transportation to different parts of our body through blood vessels. For these purposes, the inner lining of the small intestine has finger-like projections called villi, which provide a large surface area for absorption. The small intestine is also richly supplied with blood vessels for the efficient transportation of the absorbed food.
