Q 12.15 How will you bring about the following conversions in not more than two steps?
(iii) Ethanol to 3-hydroxy butanal
Ethanol on heating at 573K in presence of copper it convert into ethanal and then by aldol condensation we get 3-hydroxybutanal.
Acetaldehyde is an organic chemical compound that is colorless and can be a liquid or gas. It is found in nature in coffee, bread, and ripe fruit. It is also produced by the liver enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase when ethanol is partially oxidized.
