Given that the mast of the model ship is 9 m high, while the mast of the actual ship is 12 m.

If the length of the ship given is 28m then,

Length of the model ship can be obtained from the direct proportion relation of mast height and length of ship.

We obtained the relation:

\frac{height\ of\ mast(model)}{height\ of\ mast (actual)} = \frac{length\ of\ ship(model)}{length\ of\ ship(actual)}

So, by the relation we have;

Let us assume that the length of model ship is 'x

\frac{9cm}{1200cm} = \frac{x}{2800cm}                                                                \because (1m = 100cm)

after solving this relation we get,

x=\frac{9cm\times 2800cm}{1200cm}= 21cm,

Length of the model ship is 21cm.
