Leaves are the part of the plant which produces the plant food, through the process called photosynthesis.

When exposed to sunlight, plants, algae, and certain bacteria go through a chemical process called photosynthesis. In order to create oxygen and carbohydrates (sugars), light energy must be transformed into chemical energy.
