The expression is simplified as follows and also obtained their values

(i)

\\ 3x - 5 - x + 9 \\= 2x + 4 \\= 2 \times 3 + 4 \\= 10

(ii)

\\ 2 - 8x + 4x + 4 \\= 6 - 4x \\= 6 - 4 \times 3 \\= -6

(iii)

\\3a + 5 - 8a + 1 \\= -5a + 6 \\= -5 \times ( -1 ) + 6 \\= 5 + 6 \\=11

(iv)

\\10 - 3b - 4 - 5b \\= 6 - 8b \\= 6 - 8 \times ( -2 ) \\= 6 + 16 \\= 22

(v)

\\2a - 2b - 4 - 5 + a \\= 3a - 2b - 9 \\= 3 \times ( -1 ) - 2 \times ( -2 ) - 9 \\= -3 + 4 - 9 \\= -8
