We have 

                   \frac{x-5}{3} = \frac{x-3}{5}

Multiplying both sides by 15. (because the LCM of denominator is 15 )

            5x - 25 = 3x - 9

Transposing 3x to the LHS and -25 to the RHS.

            5x - 3x = -9 + 25

or             2x = 16

                   x = 8
