Ethylene undergoes cyclic polymerisation when passed through red hot iron tube at 873 K and gives benzene from which nitrobenzene can be obtained through nitration.

Nitrobenzene is used in the production of aniline, polyurethane, dyes, drugs, pesticides, rubber, and lubricating oils. It is also used as a solvent in petroleum refining and to clean gun barrels. Nitrobenzene is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a bitter almond or shoe polish odor. It is sparingly soluble in water, but easily soluble in other chemicals. Nitrobenzene has a relatively high vapor pressure, which contributes to its flammability.
